Starmer Rejects Trump's Request for Warships in Strait of Hormuz

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has refused President of the United States Donald Trump's request to send warships to the Middle East to protect oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. While the two leaders agreed on the importance of reopening the strait, they do not have a common approach to achieving this goal. Instead of sending warships, Britain is preparing to offer unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) for mine detection and missile interception as part of the international effort to free navigation. This decision is being made in light of Iran's warnings of retaliation against the United Kingdom. In addition, the British auxiliary ship Lyme Bay is heading to Cyprus, while the destroyer Dragon is expected to arrive in the coming days. The Lyme Bay could be used for a citizen evacuation operation, given the situation in Lebanon. Finally, Rishi Sunak is expected to announce support measures worth £50 million for households affected by the price increases caused by the crisis in the Middle East.
