Cold Snap to Bring Frost and Snow to Greece on New Year's

Greece is expected to be affected by a cold snap on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, with a drop in temperatures and frost, especially in the north. Strong north winds will prevail throughout the country, while snowfall is expected in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, possibly even in the northern suburbs of Attica. Meteorologist Nikoleta Ziakopoulou warns of a few thunderstorms in Crete and the Southern Aegean until Wednesday morning. Despite the cold, a dramatic improvement in the weather is expected from the weekend, with rising temperatures and sunshine, potentially reaching 20 degrees Celsius, in contrast to the -15 degrees Celsius forecast for New Year's Day in the north. The forecast for Wednesday predicts clear weather in the north and increased clouds with rain in the rest of the country, while New Year's Day will see few clouds with local showers in Crete and the Cyclades.
