Law on Palliative Care Services Passed in Cyprus

The Cypriot Parliament has passed the first law regulating palliative care services, providing access to all seriously ill patients, both within and outside hospitals. The law provides for the creation of specialized units, the development of home care, and the training of healthcare professionals. Emphasis is placed on patient dignity and autonomy, as well as cooperation between the public and private sectors. MPs from various parties expressed their satisfaction with the passage of the law, highlighting the delay and the need for further strengthening of services. Until now, palliative care was mainly provided by the Anti-Cancer Association and PASYKAF.
