President Christodoulides: Government to Replenish Livestock Losses from Abroad Due to Foot-and-Mouth Disease

President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides stated that the Government has a complete plan for the restoration of livestock farming after the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, including replenishing livestock losses from abroad. He made this statement during a meeting with community leaders in Pakhna, regarding announcements for relief to those affected by the 2023 fire. The President acknowledged the reactions of livestock farmers, who obstructed the culling of animals, and reiterated the Government's commitment to covering the loss of profits and strengthening livestock farming. The Government has allocated a total of 60 million euros to address the challenges, including the fire and foot-and-mouth disease. President Christodoulides urged that the crisis be seen as an opportunity to upgrade livestock farming, with an emphasis on better placement of livestock units and addressing problems arising from the presence of units within the British Bases. The Government is ready to invest significantly in the regeneration and strengthening of the livestock sector.
