Hürriyet: Greece Surrounds Turkey Under the Pretext of Iran

Turkish newspaper Hürriyet claims that Greece is accelerating a strategy of 'encirclement' of Turkey, taking advantage of the tension in the Middle East and the crisis surrounding Iran. According to the publication, Athens is taking military measures, such as deploying frigates and fighter jets to Cyprus, citing the need to protect the Republic of Cyprus from potential missile attacks from Iran. Turkey responded by deploying six F-16 fighter jets to occupied Cyprus. Hürriyet reports that Greece is reactivating the Doctrine of the Unified Defense Area Greece–Cyprus. In addition, Greece is installing a Patriot air defense system on the island of Karpathos and is considering deploying Patriot systems in Suda and fighter jets to Lemnos. The Turkish Foreign Ministry accused Greece of exploiting the regional crisis for military reinforcement. The publication also mentions the trilateral meeting between Greece, Cyprus and France, arguing that Paris is seeking to strengthen its influence in the Eastern Mediterranean through cooperation with Athens and Nicosia.
