Prolonged Bad Weather System Approaching Cyprus: Storms, Hail, and Strong Winds Expected

Cyprus is expected to be affected by two successive weather disturbances during the current week, bringing increased rainfall, localized storms, hail, and strong winds. The recent bad weather has significantly contributed to the increase in monthly rainfall, reaching 59% of normal levels for March and 90% for the current hydrological period, mainly in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas. Initially, increased cloud cover is expected without significant phenomena, with winds weakening. From Wednesday, low pressure will affect the area, bringing localized rains, which will intensify from Wednesday evening to Thursday, with storms and possible hail. Winds will be variable and strengthened, while snow or sleet is expected on Troodos. A second disturbance will affect the island from Friday to Saturday, with localized rains, isolated storms, hail, strengthened winds, and snowfall in the higher mountains. On Sunday, the phenomena will subside, but the situation will remain unstable. Winds during the storms may reach 7-8 Beaufort, especially in coastal areas, and the accumulation of water in some areas is not ruled out. A slight drop in temperature (about 2 degrees Celsius) is expected from Thursday to Saturday. March is expected to close with a positive sign regarding water harvesting.
