Chaos on National Highway: Drunk Driver Enters Opposite Lane, Collides with Truck

A serious traffic accident occurred on the Athens – Thessaloniki National Highway (PAthe) when a 62-year-old driver, under the influence of alcohol, entered the opposite lane of traffic and collided with a truck. The incident took place near Almyros, Magnesia, and the 62-year-old driver had been driving in the wrong direction for approximately 25 kilometers. The driver, from Farsala, was found to be under the influence of alcohol with readings showing 0.94 and 0.90 grams per liter of breath, far exceeding the permitted limit. He was arrested by the Traffic Police and taken to the Volos Prosecutor's Office, where he was charged with dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. The collision caused only material damage, with no one injured. The 62-year-old’s vehicle came to a standstill against the metal safety barriers. The driver requested an adjournment for his defense, in order to prepare his case and obtain a lawyer, and the trial has been set for Wednesday, during which he will remain in custody.
