Cyprus Prioritizes Security of Energy Infrastructure

The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris, visited the VTS facilities in Vasiliko, emphasizing the paramount importance of securing energy infrastructure for the Republic of Cyprus. He highlighted that prevention, preparedness, and coordination are crucial elements for protecting human lives, the environment, and infrastructure. The Ministry of Justice is taking initiatives to plan and regularly test operational plans, in collaboration with various services such as the Fire Service, the Police, and the Port and Maritime Police. The aim is to effectively manage emergencies, such as fires and external threats. During the visit, the Minister was briefed on the operation of the facilities and the security procedures in place. Scenarios for managing emergencies were discussed, with a focus on addressing potential threats. The Minister's visit is part of the government's broader plan to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure, with the planned creation of a Coast Guard Service and a Unit for the Protection of Critical Coastal Infrastructure.
