Prison Plans: Intermediaries Already in the Picture - Two Proposals for New Correctional Facility

The Minister of Justice, Kostas Fytiris, has received two proposals from private intermediaries for the construction of new Central Prisons. These proposals were submitted before the official announcement of the decision to build a new correctional facility outside the urban area. The government aims to promote the project quickly and at the lowest possible cost, but prior to that, feasibility studies, architectural and electrical studies, and funding are required. At the same time, it is essential to inform and consult with residents of neighboring areas to avoid reactions that could delay or cancel the project. The decision to build new prisons was made due to the serious problems facing existing ones, such as overcrowding and negative reports from European organizations.
