Paphos Dams Remain at Low Levels Despite Rainfall

The fullness of the dams in the province of Paphos remains at low levels, around 23%, despite recent rainfall. The Water Development Department reports that no significant change in total water reserves is expected, although inflows continue. The Pomos and Argaka dams overflowed due to heavy rainfall, which causes satisfaction in the local communities. Both dams are mainly used for irrigating crops in the area. The Argaka dam, the smallest of the large dams, operates in conjunction with the Evretou, Agia Marina and Pomos dams, creating a unified water management system for irrigation. The Xeropotamos river, which flows into the Asprokremmos dam, is flowing rapidly due to the rains, boosting the dam's reserves. The Water Development Department expects water inflows to continue and estimates that the final increase in reserves will be assessed after the wave of rainfall has passed. The Paphos Provincial Self-Governing Authority is coordinating with the Water Development Department to implement programs to conserve water consumption and reduce losses.
