A 19-year-old, Kristina Achilleos from Sotira, Famagusta, lost her life in a tragic car accident in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old, veered off course and crashed into a concrete wall on Agias Theklas Avenue. The unfortunate girl was sitting in the back seat and was wearing a seatbelt, highlighting the severity of the collision. A second 19-year-old, also in the back seat, was taken to Nicosia General Hospital in critical condition. The driver and the passenger sustained minor injuries. Police are investigating the cause of the accident, examining speed and potential driver distraction. Sub-Lieutenant Tassos Asiekkis spoke about the accident, emphasizing that the unfortunate girl was wearing a seatbelt, underlining the seriousness of the collision. The tragic incident is the fifth fatal case in Cyprus for 2024. In addition, police instructions regarding priority to emergency vehicles and penalties for drivers obstructing them were mentioned. The accident has caused shock and grief in the local community.
