Fidan-Anand: Shared Concern Over Iran and Deepening in Energy and Nuclear

The Foreign Ministers of Turkey and Canada, Hakan Fidan and Anita Anand, expressed shared concern over the escalating crisis with Iran and discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of energy and nuclear technology. The discussion focused on the deterioration of the situation in the Persian Gulf and the consequences of the ongoing conflict. Fidan warned that the failure to stop the escalation could cause lasting damage to relations between countries in the region and to the international order, while Anand condemned the attacks and called for an immediate cessation of retaliatory attacks from Iran. Turkey is seeking to take on a mediation role, and Fidan will tour the Middle East to discuss ways to end the war. At the same time, both sides sought to strengthen cooperation in energy, with an emphasis on nuclear energy, and in other areas, such as critical minerals and ores. Fidan stated that there are significant opportunities for cooperation, while Anand emphasized that cooperation in nuclear energy is on the agenda. Finally, both ministers reaffirmed their willingness to deepen cooperation further in all areas, with the aim of creating a strategic basis for the bilateral relationship.
