Cyprus Agriculture Ministry: Protesting Livestock Farmers are a Minority

The Cyprus Ministry of Agriculture acknowledges the seriousness of the foot-and-mouth disease situation, despite protests from some livestock farmers. The Ministry's Director-General, Andreas Grigoriou, stated that tackling the disease requires strict adherence to European regulations and the emergency management plan. The protesting farmers' memorandum will be reviewed in a meeting aimed at reaching consensus. Furthermore, penalties were warned regarding the illegal movement of 283 animals without registration, as this increases the risk of disease spread. The government insists on the need to follow protocols for effective management of foot-and-mouth disease.
