Phaidon Phaidonos Case: Police Submit Investigation File to Prosecutor's Office Regarding Alleged Rape

The Cyprus Police have submitted the investigation file concerning the complaint made by the suspended mayor of Paphos, Phaidon Phaidonos, regarding an alleged rape to the Legal Service. The case relates to events purportedly occurring in 2014 and was investigated by a special investigative team. The Legal Service will review the contents of the file to decide whether to file a case in the Criminal Court, archive the case due to lack of sufficient evidence, or request further investigation by the Police. Considering that the Police sought guidance from the Legal Service during the investigation, it is likely that the case has already been extensively examined. In parallel with the rape complaint, the Police also investigated a case of domestic violence against Mr. Phaidonos. However, the mayor's wife has stated that she does not wish to pursue the investigation as there is no problem between them.
