Greek Shipping Minister: Targeting of our ships is unacceptable

The Greek Ministry of Shipping confirmed that a ship with a Greek flag was attacked near Novorossiysk in the Black Sea. The tanker, chartered by Chevron, had 24 crew members, 10 of whom were Greek, and all are in good health. The attack is believed to be linked to pressures being exerted in the region and recent decisions to partially lift restrictions on Russian oil. Shipping Minister Vassilis Kikilias expressed his concern about the incident and informed the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He stressed that the targeting of Greek ships is unacceptable and dangerous, as these ships carry out legal work and should not be involved in political or military conflicts. Mr. Kikilias announced that Greece will strongly protest the incident, both at European level and in other international forums. He underlined the importance of protecting Greek ships and Greek sailors, who contribute to global shipping. The incident occurs at a time of increased tension in the Black Sea, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and international sanctions against Russia. Greece, as a country with a strong maritime tradition, is closely monitoring the situation and trying to ensure the safety of its ships and crews.
