The Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, referred to the challenges and reforms of 2025, as well as the priorities for 2026, in view of Cyprus taking over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. He emphasized that the Ministry of Interior focused on strengthening housing policy, offering solutions for young people and couples. In addition, he mentioned the streamlining of the management of Turkish Cypriot properties, with the aim of transparency and meritocracy, as well as the rapid licensing of developments to reduce bureaucracy. The urban amnesty was also a significant intervention, giving thousands of citizens the opportunity to legalize their properties. For 2026, the Minister announced substantial changes in the Departments of Urban Planning and Land Registry, with the aim of creating modern services and improving citizen service. Cyprus's assumption of the Presidency of the EU Council is a significant responsibility and opportunity to strengthen the country's voice in Europe. Mr. Ioannou expressed his optimism for a better 2026, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and effort to address the challenges and achieve the government's goals.
