Cyprus Presidency Prioritizes Housing as a Major Issue

The Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, emphasized that housing is a major issue and a priority for the Cyprus Presidency. During meetings at the European Parliament, he informed members of the Special Committee on the Housing Crisis in the EU (HOUS) about the Presidency's priorities for strengthening access to quality, sustainable, and affordable housing for all European citizens. The Cyprus Presidency will focus on four main priorities, based on the European Affordable Housing Initiative. These include enhancing access to affordable housing, with a focus on young people and vulnerable groups, as well as facilitating investment in the housing sector. Furthermore, emphasis will be placed on increasing the housing supply and exchanging experiences and knowledge between member states, with the aim of designing targeted policies that respond to the real needs of citizens. The Presidency intends to organize an informal ministerial meeting on housing in Nicosia in May. The Minister of Interior announced the holding of an informal video conference with the Housing Commissioner, where the provisions of the European Affordable Housing Initiative will be discussed. The Cyprus Presidency aims to play a mediating role in achieving a socially inclusive, sustainable, and resilient Europe.
