Greek Foreign Ministry to Turkey: Our duty to assist Cyprus's defense is self-evident

The Greek Foreign Ministry immediately responded to Turkey regarding the transfer of Patriots to Karpathos and fighter jets to the occupied territories of Cyprus, reiterating that Greece has the self-evident duty to assist Cyprus's defense when requested. This transfer is purely defensive in nature. The Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lena Zochiou, stressed that the issues of Karpathos and Cyprus were not raised during the conversation between Gerapetritis and Fidan. She also pointed out that Greece expresses its concern about the further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and has relocated its embassy from Tehran to Baku for security reasons. The Foreign Ministry calls on all parties to exercise restraint and work to create channels for dialogue. It also expressed its concern about Iran's nuclear program, emphasizing that full oversight of its programs is a prerequisite for stability in the region. Greece supports freedom of navigation and the integrity of Cyprus, despite the illegal Turkish invasion and occupation of its territory. Our country responded to the requests of Cyprus and Bulgaria for defensive assistance in order to protect the region from aggressive actions.
