Large Fire at Biscuit Factory in Trikala - 5 Workers Missing

A large fire broke out in the early hours of the morning in a wing of the well-known biscuit factory VIOLANTA in Trikala. According to the Fire Department, the fire broke out shortly before 4:00 a.m. and was caused by a large explosion, which was heard from a great distance. There were 13 workers at the scene, five of whom are missing and eight were taken to hospital for first aid, without their lives being in danger. The explosion was so powerful that windows rattled in homes and shops in the city and surrounding villages. According to reports, there were no gas tanks in the area where the fire broke out. Authorities have closed Karditsa Street and are diverting traffic from the village of Agia Kyriaki to facilitate the work of rescue teams. 40 firefighters with 15 vehicles are involved in the firefighting operation. The fire is burning intensely and firefighters are focusing on containing it and safely rescuing the missing. The situation remains critical and the investigation into the causes of the explosion and fire is ongoing.
