Cyprus Forum Brussels Focuses on the Future of Europe

The Cyprus Forum Brussels – #CY2026EU Presidency Edition, organized by Oxygen for Democracy and held under the auspices of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, took place in Brussels on February 3rd. The event brought together senior EU officials, policymakers, business leaders, and civil society representatives to discuss the future of Europe. The forum's agenda reflected the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency, including strengthening Europe's strategic autonomy, boosting competitiveness, investing in people and skills, promoting healthcare, leveraging the marine dimension of the economy, and EU enlargement. Ambassador Petros Mavrikiou emphasized Cyprus's commitment to act as an "honest broker" at a critical time for the Union, while Health Minister Neofytos Charalambides highlighted the importance of health for Europe's resilience and security. European Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Kostas Kadis emphasized the strategic importance of Europe's seas. Nicolas Kyriakides, Executive Chairman of the Cyprus Forum, stated that Cyprus views the Presidency of the Council of the EU as a political opportunity for dialogue in a time of overlapping crises and declining trust, emphasizing the need for long-term policy based on values.
