Ukraine Says Russian Strike with Oreshnik Poses Serious Threat

Ukraine says the Russian strike with an Oreshnik missile near the borders of the EU and NATO is a 'serious threat' to European security and calls for increased pressure on Moscow. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said Kyiv is informing its partners of the details of the strike. Russia claims the strike was in response to a Ukrainian attempt to attack a residence of Vladimir Putin with a drone. Kyiv dismissed the claim as a 'lie' and described Russia's attempt to justify the attack as 'absurd'. Putin has stated that the Oreshnik is impossible to intercept due to its hypersonic speed and that its destructive power is comparable to that of a nuclear weapon, even with a conventional warhead. The use of such a weapon near the borders of the EU and NATO is causing concern and exacerbating geopolitical tensions in the region.
