Beijing Calls Death of Ali Larijani 'Unacceptable'

China condemned the death of Ali Larijani, head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, in an Israeli strike, calling it “unacceptable.” China also called for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East. Larijani was considered the de facto leader of Iran after the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant had stated that the military had been authorized to eliminate Iranian officials without further approval, which prompted a reaction from China. China expressed shock at Gallant's statement and emphasized that the use of violence in international relations is unacceptable, especially the assassination of leaders of other countries. China, as a trade and diplomatic partner of Iran, has strengthened its relations with Middle Eastern countries and has repeatedly condemned the military operations of the United States and Israel.
