Cyprus Supreme Court Rejects Russian Citizen's Appeal Against Extradition

The Cyprus Supreme Court has rejected an appeal filed by a Russian citizen detained in Cyprus and facing extradition to Russia on tax evasion charges. The appellant argued that his extradition would expose him to human rights violations and torture in Russian prisons. However, the Court ruled that there was insufficient evidence to demonstrate a real risk of such mistreatment, given that the charges against him relate to common crimes and not political activity. Furthermore, the Court noted that the general conditions in Russian prisons do not necessarily affect all detainees. The Larnaca District Court had previously approved the Russian citizen's extradition to Russia to stand trial for the tax evasion case.
