Poland Seeks Greater Autonomy in Nuclear Deterrence

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the country is seeking to become autonomous in the field of nuclear deterrence, as Europe strives to reduce its dependence on the United States in this critical area. Poland is in talks with France and other European allies regarding an advanced nuclear deterrence program, while simultaneously investing in the development of its own nuclear power plants. Tusk emphasized that Poland will cooperate with its allies but aims to have the ability to act autonomously on nuclear security matters. The discussion on the matter is expected to continue at a nuclear energy summit in Paris in March, where Tusk will meet with President Macron and other European leaders. Poland desires to prepare for a future where it can ensure its nuclear security independently of other nations.
