Turkish Expansionism Disguised as Peacemaking

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has stated that Turkey has no territorial ambitions, while simultaneously presenting his vision for the “Blue Homeland,” an expansionist plan. This statement was made during the delivery of an armed unmanned vessel to the Turkish navy, as Ankara strengthens its other military forces. Despite the official assurance, Turkey is accused of expansionist intentions, such as the occupation of territory in Cyprus since 1974 and the questioning of Greek sovereignty in the Aegean Sea. Turkish influence is also expanding to other regions, such as Africa, through economic investments and other forms of support. Turkey is characterized as a power that does not operate in accordance with international law, an attitude that does not cause much concern in the international community, except for Greece and Cyprus. Turkey's behavior is judged by its actions, not by the statements of President Erdoğan.
