Istanbul Mayor Imamoglu Challenges Erdogan to Call Snap Elections

The Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, has challenged Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to call snap elections, expressing confidence that he would defeat him. Imamoglu, considered Erdogan's main opponent, stated that the president fears losing. He is currently on trial for corruption, charges he denies, and remains a strong figure in the opposition despite being imprisoned. To call early elections, Erdogan would need the support of three-fifths of the parliament, which is considered likely to happen next year. Polls show a close race between Erdogan's party and Imamoglu’s CHP.
