Cyprus Abolishes Stamp Duty

As of January 1, 2026, documents drawn up and signed in Cyprus will no longer be subject to stamp duty, as stamps are being abolished. The Tax Department clarifies that documents drawn up and signed up to December 31, 2025, remain subject to existing stamp duty laws and must be duly stamped. Licensed Stamp Dealers may continue to sell existing stamp stocks to serve documents that still require stamping. It is also noted that the payment of fees under other legislation may continue using existing stamps until new procedures are established by the competent authorities. The abolition of stamp duty is a significant change in the Cypriot tax system, aimed at simplifying procedures and reducing bureaucracy.
