Turkish Cypriot Child of Mixed Marriage Seeks Cypriot Citizenship at ECHR

A case concerning the acquisition of Cypriot citizenship by a child of a mixed marriage is proceeding to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The case of Enta Hancer Akkor had been dismissed by Cypriot courts. The Turkish Cypriot Teachers' Union (KTÖS) supports the case, considering it a pilot case for other similar applications. They argue that the criteria used by the Republic of Cyprus to deny citizenship to children of mixed marriages are discriminatory and raise questions.
