Memorial Service for Hero Andreas Christofides to be Held on Sunday

The annual memorial service for the hero Andreas Christofides, who fell fighting in Agios Sozomenos in 1964, will be held this Sunday, February 15th. The ceremony will take place at the Holy Church of Apostle Andrew in Limassol, attended by the Metropolitan Bishop of Limassol, Athanasios, and the President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, who will deliver the eulogy. Andreas Christofides was born in 1939 and actively participated in the EOKA struggle from a young age. He served in the police and was killed in a battle with Turkish Cypriots during the intercommunal clashes. He was known for his character and patriotic values. The battles in Agios Sozomenos were among the first clashes after the outbreak of the unrest in 1963. The area became a focal point of conflict, resulting in the death of both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. The memorial service is an opportunity to honor the memory of Andreas Christofides and all the heroes who fell defending Cyprus. The ceremony is an important event for the local community and a reminder of the history and struggles of the Cypriot people.
