Taxi Drivers in Larnaca Stage Four-Hour Strike

Taxi drivers in Larnaca staged a four-hour strike today, protesting against unfair competition from ride-hailing apps, particularly at the airport. They demand the immediate cessation of these apps' operations outside their licensed areas and strict adherence to taxi rank regulations. The drivers warn of a 24-hour strike on January 20th and an indefinite strike on January 28th if their demands are not met. The Pan-Cypriot Federation of Taxi Drivers (POAT) accuses the relevant authorities of inaction despite repeated meetings. The Licensing Authority expressed surprise at the mobilization, emphasizing its efforts to improve the regulatory framework and urging POAT to cancel the measures, warning of potential negative impacts on the economy and tourism.
