Cyprus Case Regarding 'Golden' Passports Terminated by EU

The Republic of Cyprus will not be brought before the European courts regarding the Cyprus Investment Program (CIP) and 'golden' passports, as the European Commission has concluded that Cyprus has taken the necessary measures to comply with EU law. The infringement procedure has been terminated, unlike Malta, whose case remains under review. This decision does not affect criminal cases pending in Cypriot courts. The Republic's Legal Service has managed the issue from the beginning, appointing an investigative committee and revoking citizenships in certain cases. Meetings were also held with European Commissioners to inform them about the measures taken by Cyprus. Relevant legislation was amended in cooperation with the European Commission, aiming to terminate the infringement procedure.
