AKEL Veteran Award Ceremony in Paphos Yesterday

AKEL honored veterans from the province of Paphos who have completed 50 years of continuous party life and action in the Party at a ceremony held in Paphos. The event recognized the long-standing contribution and dedication of these members to the party and its ideals. The Provincial Secretary of AKEL, Andreas Fakontis, emphasized that the ceremony was not merely an award, but an act of political honor to people who served an idea and did not compromise with injustice in difficult times. He underlined the importance of their action in times of persecution and political conflicts. The awardees had become members of AKEL shortly after the events of 1974, the coup and the Turkish invasion. Their contribution was significant in supporting refugees, the afflicted and the missing, in rebuilding the economy and in the effort for a better future for Cyprus. The General Secretary of AKEL, in his speech, emphasized that AKEL is a party of workers and ordinary people, which has been offering to the homeland and society for over a century. He stressed the party's commitment to dignity, tackling misery and improving working conditions.
