The 7 Islands Holding the Keys to the Strait of Hormuz

With the possibility of US military intervention in Iran increasing, attention is turning to a series of Iranian islands in the Strait of Hormuz, considered critical for controlling navigation. Seven islands – Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, Hengam, Qeshm, Larak, and Hormuz – form a "defensive arc" that allows Iran to exert significant control over the region. The islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb are particularly important, as their strategic location forces large ships to pass close to them, making them easy targets. Iran has strengthened its military presence on these islands, and neutralizing Iranian positions on these islands will be necessary for the safe passage of US ships. The capture of Kharg Island, a major energy hub, is also considered likely.
