Cyprus President Outlines Five-Point Plan for Resuming Negotiations

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, presented a comprehensive proposal for resuming negotiations on the Cyprus issue, following a meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader and the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Maria Angela Holguin. The proposal focuses on five key points: reaffirming the basis for a solution, the role of the United Nations in recording convergences, convening an expanded conference, opening new crossing points, and announcing unilateral measures in favor of Turkish Cypriots. President Christodoulides emphasized that the issue of political equality has already been settled and is not a point of contention. An agreement was reached to continue contacts at a technical level, with the aim of making progress and resuming substantive negotiations.
