Published January 28, 2026, 12:28

President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides, Turkish Cypriot leader Erhurman, and UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy Maria Angela Olguin held a two-hour meeting without achieving a substantial outcome. Ms. Olguin stated that the two leaders shared proposals for initiating meaningful negotiations and reviewed the implementation of new Confidence Building Measures (CBMs). They also examined the list of confidence-building initiatives, with some progress noted between the two sides. Olguin emphasized the importance of direct dialogue for expressing views and concerns, describing the process as slow but not discouraging. The possibility of convening a new Informal Five-Party Conference is not currently on the horizon.
