Auditing Reveals Deficiencies in Accident and Emergency Departments

The Audit Office found non-compliance with internal procedures and administrative weaknesses in the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Departments of the General Hospitals of Nicosia, as revealed by an audit discussed in the House of Representatives' Control Committee. Problems were identified in the completion of forms, posing a legal risk to the Cyprus Organisation of State Health Services (OKYPY), as well as delays in the preparation of medical reports. A malfunction in the CT scanner at Nicosia Hospital was also reported, which has been replaced but is not yet operational. In addition, it was found that tele-diagnosis of X-rays is carried out without a comprehensive legal framework. OKYPY acknowledged the need to update the A&E operating manual and address the pressures faced by doctors.
