Strong Reactions from Institutions Committee Against Auditor General Over Donor Information

Published January 28, 2026, 17:26

The House Institutions Committee is strongly reacting to the refusal of the Auditor General to submit the details of donors to the independent social support organization. The Committee President, Dimitris Dimitriou, stated that this refusal potentially constitutes a criminal offense and jeopardizes the functioning of democratic institutions. The Committee is requesting the information to exercise parliamentary control, as stipulated by the Constitution and legislation. Mr. Dimitriou emphasized that refusing to submit information to the Parliament is illegal, except in exceptional cases involving national security. The Committee expects the Auditor General to comply and warns that if he does not, a collective decision will be taken. AKEL MP Andreas Pasourtidis described the refusal as an attempt to shrink the powers of the Parliament.
