Communities in the Achera Area Coordinating Efforts Against Asphalt Plant

Eight communities in the Achera area – Agios Ioannis, Agrokipia, Arediou, Kato Moni, Malounta, Meniko, Mitserou and Orounta – are coordinating their efforts to prevent the installation of an asphalt plant in the area. This initiative comes as a response to the long-standing concerns of residents about the impact of such a plant on quality of life, public health and the environment. The communities will hold an inter-communal assembly on February 28, 2026, at the Mitserou Elementary School, with the aim of informing residents and relevant stakeholders about recent legal developments. The assembly, supported by the 'Communities in Action' initiative group, will serve as a platform for exchanging views and developing a common strategy. According to a statement from the Community Councils, the main goal is to prevent the installation of the plant, but at the same time, the long-standing problems faced by the communities, concerning quality of life, health and the environment, will also be discussed. The assembly is expected to lead to coordinated decisions to defend the rights of residents. The communities call on citizens to actively participate in the assembly, while extending an invitation to the media to cover the event. This move highlights the importance of collective action to protect the environment and the quality of life in local communities.
