An outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease has been confirmed in a cattle unit in Dromolaxia, near the infected zone. Epidemiological investigations and laboratory tests confirmed the case, which was detected in a unit with approximately 500 animals. Veterinary Services are expected to hold a press conference to provide more details. Meanwhile, the vaccination of sheep and goats within the 3 and 10 kilometer zones around the area continues with the aim of limiting the spread of the disease. According to Sotería Georgiadou, spokesperson for the Veterinary Services, the situation is contained regarding the number of animals that have been culled. Consumers are assured that they can consume animal products without fear, as the disease does not pose a risk to their health. Authorities emphasize the importance of adhering to prevention measures, such as animal monitoring and disinfection of facilities. This development is causing concern in the livestock community, while authorities are on high alert to tackle the crisis.
