President of Cyprus to Meet with UN Secretary-General in Brussels

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, will meet with the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, on March 18 in Brussels, on the sidelines of the European Parliament leaders' summit. The meeting was arranged following an initiative and letter from President Christodoulides and is part of the effort to restart negotiations on the Cyprus issue. Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that the Greek Cypriot side's readiness to restart the process is given, from the point where talks were interrupted in Crans Montana, based on the Bi-zonal, Bi-communal Federation. The Greek Cypriot side is ready to participate in an expanded meeting under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General to discuss all aspects of the Cyprus issue. President Christodoulides will also meet with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, where regional developments and cooperation between Cyprus and the European Union will be discussed. The European Union provides substantial support to the Republic of Cyprus.
