Tragedy as Seven Greek PAOK Fans Die in Romania Road Accident

A tragic road accident in Romania has resulted in the deaths of seven Greek PAOK football fans and injuries to three others. The van carrying the fans collided with a truck on the DN6 – E70 highway, near the town of Lugojelul, in the Timis area. The accident occurred around 1 PM in the village of Lăgoș, near Timișoara, and involved a total of four vehicles. According to Romanian media reports, the van crashed violently into the truck, disintegrating on the road surface. The fans were traveling to Lyon for the upcoming Thursday (January 29th) match against the French team. Three of the victims are from Alexandrias, Imathia, while one originates from Pieria. The Greek embassy in Bucharest has confirmed the deaths and dispatched a team to the accident site, which is a 7-hour drive from the capital. Representatives of PAOK FC are in contact with Greek and Romanian authorities to coordinate efforts. PAOK FC is taking care of the treatment of the injured, the repatriation of the bodies to Greece, and providing assistance to the families of the victims. They have appealed for calm and stated that updates will be provided as new information becomes available. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has expressed his condolences.
