Cyprus Websites Targeted by Cyberattacks – Communications Commissioner Explains if They Are Linked to the War

Several websites in Cyprus have been targeted by cyberattacks in recent days, mainly Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks, where pages become overloaded due to artificially increased traffic. Communications Commissioner Giorgos Michailidis described these attacks as the most common and harmless. Mr. Michailidis stated that the attacks may be related to the current situation in the region or the Cypriot Presidency, but it is not ruled out that they are random. No specific pattern has been identified in the targeted websites. The Digital Security Authority (DSA) provides information and technical assistance, but protecting against such attacks requires website owners to invest in special services that can manage increased traffic. The DSA monitors the phenomenon 24/7 and informs critical infrastructure.
