President Christodoulides to Meet with UN Secretary-General Guterres

President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides will meet with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in Brussels on March 18th, on the sidelines of the European Council Leaders' Summit. The meeting is at the initiative of President Christodoulides and aims to restart negotiations on the Cyprus issue, based on a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality, as defined by relevant UN resolutions. The government expresses its readiness to restart the process from the point where talks were interrupted in Crans Montana in 2017 and believes that convening an expanded meeting under the UN Secretary-General could be catalytic for achieving substantial progress. President Christodoulides will also meet with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to discuss regional developments and cooperation between Cyprus and the EU. Finally, discussion was made regarding the impact on tourism due to Cyprus's image abroad.
