Panayiotou in Brussels for Foot-and-Mouth Disease - "We will have quick and direct coordination"

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou, is in Brussels to discuss the issue of foot-and-mouth disease with Health Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi. The meeting takes place within the framework of the Fisheries - Agriculture (AgriFish) Council. The Minister has requested the dispatch of a team from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Health (DG SANTE) to coordinate efforts to protect production and farmers. In addition, discussions focused on strengthening Europe's resilience and strategic autonomy in the field of food security, with an emphasis on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) after 2027. The Minister stressed the importance of the CAP for Cyprus and the need for adequate support for farmers and rural communities.
