31-Year-Old Sentenced to Many Years in Prison - 110 Kilos of Drugs and a Clean Criminal Record

A 31-year-old Moldovan national was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court for possession of 15,060 kilograms of cocaine and 94,960 kilograms of cannabis with intent to supply. The court emphasized the increasing drug trafficking in the country and its serious consequences for society, especially for youth. The decision states that the spread of drugs is a social scourge and a minefield for social welfare. Despite prevention and suppression efforts, the problem has intensified and taken on alarming proportions. However, the court took into account mitigating factors, such as the defendant's young age, clean criminal record, admission of guilt, poor financial situation, gambling addiction, and his role as a carrier in the trafficking chain. Nevertheless, the court ruled that the severity of the crimes and the consequences for society require the imposition of a severe sentence in order to prevent further drug trafficking and protect social values.
