Panagiotou Addresses Parliament on Foot-and-Mouth Disease - "We will be excluded from the international market if we do not comply"

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panagiotou, briefed the Parliament's Agriculture Committee on the actions taken to address the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in Cyprus. The minister emphasized that non-compliance with European legislation regarding mass culling of animals could lead to Cyprus's exclusion from the international market, with serious economic consequences. Approximately 13,500 animals have been culled so far. MPs expressed criticism of the crisis management and concerns about the future of farmers and the adequacy of milk and halloumi production. The discussion focused on the need to implement European regulations and the potential consequences of non-compliance.
