Final Stretch for Electoral Register in Cyprus

The Electoral Service is in the final stages of closing the electoral register, with a deadline of April 2nd. The Head of the Service, Menelaos Vasiliou, stated that this is the last time the registration process will be carried out manually, as from the Presidential elections of 2028, registration will be automatic. All Cypriot citizens over 18 years of age are eligible to register, while those between 18 and 25 can submit their application electronically or in printed form. For those over 25, an interview with the District Officer is required to prove permanent residence in Cyprus for the last 6 months. The Ministry of Interior has sent letters to those who turned 18 since 2024, informing them about the registration process. Information campaigns are also being carried out to encourage registration and participation in the elections, as well as to ensure accessibility to polling stations for people with disabilities. Estimates suggest that around 160,000 Cypriots over the age of 18 are not yet registered on the electoral roll.
