Eni Nears Final Decision on Cronos Gas Field – LNG Exports Targeted for 2027

Eni is in the final stages of deciding on the development of the Cronos natural gas field off the coast of Cyprus, with a target for LNG exports in 2027. The field, discovered by a joint venture between Eni and TotalEnergies, is located in block 6 of the Cypriot EEZ. President Christodoulides stated that the natural gas could be channeled to European markets as early as 2027. The decision is expected within the next few months, pending the completion of necessary approvals. Cronos is estimated to contain approximately 3.4 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and is a significant deposit for Europe's energy security, given the effort to reduce dependence on Russia. The natural gas will be transported via pipelines to Egypt for liquefaction and export.
