Foot-and-Mouth Disease Cases Remain at 38

The number of positive foot-and-mouth disease cases remains at 38, with all cases located within the infected zone in the province of Larnaca. All other results from sample tests in other provinces, including Larnaca outside the infected area, are negative, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment. The Veterinary Services continue vaccinations, tracing, and sampling on a pan-Cypriot basis. So far, no new cases have been reported outside the infected zone. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking measures to limit the spread of the disease. Culling continues at the premises in Dromolaxia, only in cows, due to the severe clinical symptoms presented by the animals. The Minister of Agriculture presented the situation to the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, explaining the legal framework and Cyprus's obligations as an EU member state. 88,650 doses of vaccines for cattle and 238,400 doses for sheep and goats have been granted to private veterinarians. The Ministry reminds the need for strict adherence to restrictive measures, such as the movement of animals and feed, the movement of people without permission, and the grazing of animals. Zoos and theme parks remain closed.
