Snowfall in Troodos Mountains, Hazardous Road Conditions

Snow has been falling in Troodos since this morning, transforming the landscape into a winter scene. Police have announced that all roads in the area are slippery and dangerous due to snowfall and fog. The road to Mount Olympus is open only to 4x4 vehicles or those equipped with anti-slip chains. Drivers are urged to be extremely careful, reduce speed, and keep their headlights on. Andreas Chrysanthou, an official from the Meteorological Department, stated that a temperature drop, strengthened wind field, rain, and thunderstorms are expected. A slight rise in temperature is forecast for tomorrow, Saturday, with a temporary weakening of the winds, but rain will continue. On Sunday, the weather will deteriorate again with stronger winds, rain, thunderstorms, and snow in the mountains. According to Mr. Chrysanthou, the temperature will drop by 5-6 degrees Celsius compared to yesterday, reaching 15-17 degrees Celsius today, while in the mountains it may fall below 4 degrees Celsius. The winds will be strong to gale force (6-7 Beaufort) with gusts up to 8 Beaufort, especially in Paphos. A yellow warning has been issued for the strong winds, valid until 10 pm. Drivers and citizens are advised to be prepared and take necessary safety precautions.
